Utah Tech University’s Sears Art Museum unveils annual Art Department Showcase

Experience the creativity and craftsmanship of emerging and established artists at Utah Tech University’s Art Department Showcase.

The showcase will open with an artist reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 18 at the Sears Art Museum, located in Utah Tech’s Eccles Fine Arts Center. The exhibition will then be on display through May 2, welcoming visitors Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free to both the reception and exhibition.

This annual event highlights the talent of Utah Tech students and faculty, providing a platform for students to refine their professional presentation skills and build competitive portfolios essential for career opportunities and graduate studies.

“The Art Department Showcase is not just an exhibition—it’s a testament to artistic progress and creative discovery,” Alex Chamberlain, chair of the UT Art Department, said. “It reflects the journey of our students, from their early experiments in technique to the refined, expressive works of our graduating seniors. This show is a tribute to their dedication and artistic ambition.”

Additionally, the showcase will feature the work of McGarren Flack, associate professor of foundations, who is known for his striking figurative and still-life paintings and has had one of his works recently acquired for the State of Utah’s Alice Merrill Horne Collection. His pieces will be displayed in the Eccles Grand Foyer as part of the exhibition.

At Utah Tech University’s Art Department, students gain hands-on experience in painting, sculpture, animation, photography, digital imaging and more, with a curriculum designed to bridge technical skills with artistic vision. Offering bachelor’s degrees across multiple disciplines, the program prepares graduates for careers in the arts while fostering an environment of creativity and innovation. New as of Fall 2024, Utah Tech now offers a terminal MFA degree in Studio Art. Graduate students’ work will be included in the showcase as well.
