General auditions open for Dixie’s Got Talent though Nov. 9

Dixie’s Got Talent, a showcase of Southern Utah’s top performers and a fundraiser for Utah Tech University student scholarships, is now hosting open auditions.

Video auditions for the talent show, which features performers from throughout the Dixie region of Southern Utah, are open until 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 9 at utahtech.edu/DGT. After open auditions close, a panel of judges will review the videos and advance the top contestants to the in-person callback round. The Finale Show, scheduled for Jan. 26, 2023, will feature the top 10 youth and top 10 adult finalists and is open for the community to attend.

“Dixie’s Got Talent is such a special event because it does two things that are really important for our community,” said John Bowler, director of alumni relations for Utah Tech. “First, it showcases the wonderful talent we have in Washington County, and second, it raises funds for student scholarships. I can’t think of two more meaningful things to do in one single event.”

A panel of judges and audience members select the overall winners and runners up. The first-place and runner-up winners in both youth and adult categories receive cash prizes, gain exposure before a large audience and hold the title of Dixie’s Got Talent winner or runner-up for the year.

Aly Johnston, adult runner-up in 2022, said performing in Dixie’s Got Talent helped her become involved in school activities and share her passion for dance.

“Dance has been a part of my life since I can remember, and I’m grateful for the support I received throughout the process. I love being able to do something I enjoy while also participating in the scholarship opportunities that our campus offers,” Johnston said. “I think that this was one experience I will never forget. It is a great way to show your talents and also get out of your comfort zone.”
