‘Urgency of Women’s Leadership’ to encourage women to engage their circles of influence

The Women’s Leadership Institute is hosting an event to celebrate women and help them embrace and engage with their leadership potential.

The Urgency of Women’s Leadership event is set to take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 21 in the Zion Room, located on the fifth floor of the Holland Centennial Commons on the Utah Tech campus in St. George.

Women from throughout southern Utah will attend and participate. Presentations will include southern Utah female leaders showcasing the many ways women lead in their homes, businesses and communities. The event will highlight paths for women to engage and enlarge existing circles of influence with the intended purpose of communicating the urgency of women’s leadership today.

“There is so much untapped potential in women leaders in southern Utah,” said Nancy Hauck, Associate Provost for Community and Global Engagement at Utah Tech University. “It’s urgent that we realize this potential by acknowledging and overcoming the barriers along the way. Strong women leaders make for a strong southern Utah.”

The event is a culmination of a partnership between the Women’s Leadership Institute, a business-led, Utah-based 501(c)3 organization led by CEO Patricia Jones, and Utah Women Run with Sheryl Allen and Nina Barnes in collaboration with leaders from Utah Tech University, Southern Utah University and business associations throughout southern Utah.

“The pipeline is filled with qualified women ready to move into top slots. Yet it isn’t happening,” said Jeris Johnson with American Association of University Women. “Barriers, biases and an outdated workplace model challenge women eager to get ahead.”

Sharon Rosenbaum of SHE Sparks Business encourages women from all backgrounds to attend this event. “When women succeed and push each other, it helps all of us, our daughters and the next generations.”

The event is open to the public, with general tickets available for $30 and tickets for college students at $15, thanks to a donation from Three Corners Women’s Giving Circle. Tickets and more information are available at wliut.com.
