Dixie State University new student enrollment increases by nearly 11 percent over last year
Dixie State University welcomed 3,210 new students to campus this fall, a 10.8 percent increase in first-time freshman and transfer students over last year, positioning DSU among three other growing public colleges and universities in Utah according to official enrollment numbers released by the Utah System of Higher Education today.
Dixie State’s fall 2020 student population, comprised of 12,043 individuals, increased by 7.6 percent overall from last year as indicated by USHE’s Fall 2020 3rd-Week Enrollments, Total Headcount numbers. Demonstrating the longevity and sustainability of the university’s growth, Dixie State’s third-week fall enrollment has increased by more than 40 percent in the last five years.
“We are excited to welcome a record-setting number of new students to campus, contributing to the largest student body in Dixie State’s history,” Dixie State University President Richard “Biff” Williams said. “To help prepare these students for success, DSU continues to expand our academic programs and facilities to give every Trailblazer a high-quality, affordable education.”
Committed to providing students with a valuable education, DSU continues to expand its nationally-ranked programs at the lowest university tuition cost in Utah. Dixie State has added 111 new programs in the past five years. With these additions, the university now offers more than 200 programs including 51 bachelor’s degrees and four master’s programs.
Additionally, in alignment with DSU’s new academic focus and to accommodate the workforce demand for STEM professionals, the university is currently constructing the Science, Engineering & Technology building, adding 29 labs and eight new classrooms to the campus footprint. Also under construction is Campus View Suites II, which will add 534 beds to DSU’s on-campus student housing. Both new buildings are on track to open by the Fall 2021 semester.
Included in DSU’s enrollment numbers is an increase in diversity, which grew by 7.2 percent overall. Also, females make up 57.9 percent of the DSU student population and 17 percent of the student body includes non-resident students.
