Dixie State University Department of Public Safety has been ranked third on the 2020 Safe Campus Top 25 list for accomplishments in improving campus safety, as announced by Safe Campus this week. The ranking also positions DSU as a finalist for the Department of the Year Award.
“Being selected as a finalist and in the top three for Department of the Year by Campus Safety demonstrates DSU’s commitment to providing a safe, secure and enjoyable environment for all of our students, staff, faculty and the DSU community,” DSU Chief of Police Blair Barfuss said. “This recognition shows that President Williams, University administration and our entire Trailblazer Nation have worked diligently toward safety on campus. We believe this is just the beginning of our community policing program, and we look forward to what our DSU community can accomplish in safety and security in the future.”
Administrative departments are recognized on the list for their outstanding achievements in encouraging a safe campus environment. California State University, Fullerton and Santa Fe College police departments were also recognized in the top three of the Safe Campus Top 25 list. All 4,298 U.S. accredited higher-education institutions were eligible.
“Each Top 25 department has shown dedication to improving the safety of students, employees and visitors at their institutions,” said Linda Shaw, director of Safe Campus, an organization committed to improving safety and emergency planning and response at institutions of higher education throughout the United States.
DSU’s Department of Public Safety is the only accredited university police department in Utah, and one of only seven agencies in the state accredited by the Utah Chiefs of Police Association.
