Dixie State University to present constitutional forum

DSUPizzaAndPolitics2Dixie State University’s new Institute of Politics & Public Affairs continues its inaugural year by teaming up with DSU'S Executive Leadership Institute for the second installment of the bi-monthly Pizza & Politics forums. Travis M. Seegmiller, managing director of Dixie State's Executive Leadership Institute and professor of constitutional law and executive leadership in the Business Department, will offer the lively and interactive presentation “Indispensable Principles of Human Freedom: Our Remarkable U.S. Constitution.” The event is set to take place at noon on Thursday, Sept. 15, in the Gardner Center Living Room. The discussion is free to students and community members alike. Free pizza will be available and pocket constitutions will be given to the first 100 attendees. Active participants will be entered into a raffle for a chance to receive free dinner from Chipotle. "Almost 230 years after its signing, the constitution remains the foundation of law in our country, but many don't have a basic understanding of its tenets,” Henrie Walton, the director of the Institute of Politics, said. “This event will help educate students and the community on the constitution and highlight its relevance in our lives today." In honor of Constitution Day, the presentation will emphasize the Bill of Rights and the rights and freedoms that are not present in the Constitution. This year will be the 229th anniversary of the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by 39 men on Sept. 17, 1787. Pizza & Politics is a bi-monthly forum created to increase civic engagement and promote an open dialogue across the Dixie State campus and into the Southern Utah community. The series will continue on Sept. 29 with a discussion on drug decriminalization.
