DSUSearsGalleryJacks-Ginny.NorthcottLetting your inner child out is not only allowed, its encouraged at the interactive and playful exhibit “Go Out & Play!” hosted by the Dixie State University Sears Art Museum Gallery. Viewers will be inspired to bring the creativity and wonder that play promotes back into their lives after experiencing works from local artists and nationally recognized artists alike. The free exhibit opens in Dixie State’s Dolores Doré Eccles Fine Arts Center on Sept. 9 and will continue to entertain visitors Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Nov. 11. An artist reception will follow the opening on Sept. 16 from 7 to 8:30 p.m in the Eccles Grand Foyer. “I feel it necessary to nurture a playfulness and to be unpretentious and embrace painting as a wonderful, virtuous endeavor,” said local artist Reece Thompson, whose work is in the exhibit and who will be featured at the corresponding artist reception. Alongside Thompson’s spontaneous and unreserved art is work from Dixie State faculty member McGarren Flack. Additionally, Dan Whalen’s expansive collection of Star Wars figures is sure to cause envy among visitors while Hurricane artist Jodi Fuller expresses her colorful world at age 10 through painting. Residents of St. George and the surrounding community will be thrilled to recognize their very own fountain bar at Judd’s in Karen March’s watercolor. Examples of other well-known artists from across Utah included in the exhibit are Dan Lewis, Fiona Phillips, Julie Rogers and Kirk Parkinson. “Expect some surprises!” Dixie State Art Curator Kathy Cieslewicz said. “In addition to the beautiful visuals, visitors can expect to engage in a game of chess, Scrabble or hopscotch. The exhibit focuses on reigniting the viewers’ own childhood through interaction and reminiscing.” For more information on the Dixie State University Sears Art Museum Gallery’s upcoming exhibits, visit searsart.com or like their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SearsArtMuseumGallery.
