Utah Tech University’s annual Tree Lighting Celebration to feature drone show for first time

Utah Tech University invites the community to celebrate the holidays on campus at the annual Tree Lighting Celebration.

The event is set to take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 3 in the Holland Plaza, located on Trailblazer Boulevard directly off University Avenue. The ceremonial lighting of the 40-foot light tree will take place at 6 p.m. The event is free, and the community is encouraged to attend.

“The annual Tree Lighting Celebration is truly one of my favorite traditions,” Brenna McCue, events and promotions coordinator at Utah Tech, said. “There’s something magical about seeing our campus and the St. George community come together in such high spirits to welcome the holiday season.”

For the first time, this year’s celebration will include a holiday-themed drone show at 7:30 p.m. Additionally, the event will feature tractor rides, horse and carriage rides, visits with Santa, live performances and various booths with games and activities. University President Shane B. Smeed and First Lady Angela Smeed will be giving away a commemorative ornament to the first 500 attendees.

“Utah Tech University’s Tree Lighting Celebration showcases the very best of who we are — our unity, our joy and the genuine sense of togetherness that makes this place so special,” McCue said.
