Utah Tech University inducts three members into Hall of Fame

In recognition of their significant contributions to Trailblazer Nation, Dr. Wayne Provost and Lindsay and Laura Atwood were recently inducted into Utah Tech University’s Hall of Fame.

“The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is a special opportunity to celebrate the vision, service and achievements of those who have helped shape Utah Tech’s story,” Shane B. Smeed, president of Utah Tech University, said. “Congratulations to our newest inductees — Dr. Wayne Provost, Laura and the late Lindsay Atwood — whose lasting impact continues to inspire our university and community.”

Established in 1998, the university’s Hall of Fame honors members of the university community who have provided a significant gift to education through service or financial contribution and achieved distinction in a field of study, profession or through community involvement. Recipients of this honor have proven themselves over time and have had an impact locally, statewide, nationally or internationally.

This year’s inductees embody Utah Tech’s “active learning. active life.” approach to education and life.

Lindsay, who was honored posthumously, and Laura Atwood have built a lasting legacy rooted in generosity, entrepreneurship and a deep commitment to education. Following successful business ventures, they became deeply involved with Utah Tech University, where Lindsay served as a trustee, mentor and instructor known for his kindness and passion for student success.

After Lindsay’s passing in 2019, Laura continued their shared mission, notably supporting the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology, including the Lindsay and Laura Atwood Genomics Lab. Their contributions also led to the creation of the Atwood Innovation Plaza, a hub for entrepreneurship and innovation. Together, their impact has helped transform Utah Tech into a center for hands-on learning, innovation, and opportunity for future generations.

Known as “Doc” throughout the University community, Provost has been involved with patents since the early 1970s, contributing to innovations like the insulin pump, portable dialysis machine and re-sealable cereal box top. With more than 90 U.S. Patent and Trademark publications, his work includes mechanical devices, dental products, medical devices and software. As founder and director of the Innovation Guidance and Solutions Center at Utah Tech University, Provost has helped more than 500 individuals navigate the intellectual property process, resulting in hundreds of patents, copyrights and trademarks. A Navy veteran and lifelong philanthropist, Provost has served on numerous boards and continues to foster a space where creativity, collaboration and real-world solutions thrive.
