Utah Tech University to host free cybersecurity seminar
To help community members avoid digital scams and protect their money from cybercriminals, Utah Tech University’s Community Education department is hosting a free cybersecurity seminar.
The seminar, titled “Protecting Your Money in a Digital World” is set to take place on Monday, Sept. 15 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in room 121 of the Udvar-Hazy Business building. The event is open to the public and the community is encouraged to attend.
“Behind every scam is a professional network of criminals looking to steal not just money, but your peace of mind,” Jon Routh, the Community Education instructor who will be leading the seminar, said. “Cybercrime isn’t slowing down. Now is the time to get prepared.”
The seminar will offer an in-depth look at how cybercrime works, common tricks scammers use and steps people can take to protect themselves. The seminar will also include information about resources available to keep people’s digital lives secure.
Routh is an author who holds two degrees in computer science and spent his working life at IBM in numerous technical, sales and executive positions. He retired in 2006 and moved to St. George, Utah, where he shares his expertise as an instructor for Utah Tech’s Community Education department.
Utah Tech’s Community Education Department offers a variety of non-credit enrichment classes to the general public. Participants can select from a number of topics including motorcycle safety, art, photography, dance, foreign language and more.
