Utah Tech University Foundation’s 21ST Annual Fire & Ice Scholarship Gala garnered significant funds for Utah Tech University students, raising $170,020 that night from a live auction and silent auction for the Marcia Wade and Dorothy Orton “Pay It Forward” Scholarship and a paddle raise for student support.
Net proceeds from the annual black-tie gala directly benefit Utah Tech scholarships that are awarded to students who may not be able to pursue a college education without financial assistance. In addition, as part of the gala, the event raised $36,400 for the university’s Student Resource Center and Struggling Student Fund, which assists students who encounter unforeseen events that create financial emergencies, potentially putting their education at risk. The fund helps students with essential needs like food, housing, tuition, books, daycare and medical services.
“The Southern Utah community is incredibly generous and I’m beyond appreciative for their continued outpouring of support that helps students have access to a high-quality, active education,” Brad Last, vice president of advancement at Utah Tech, said. “Education has the ability to transform lives for the better, and the contributions made at the Fire & Ice Scholarship Gala will help our hard-working students accomplish their goals and positively impact their families for generations to come.”
The annual Fire & Ice Scholarship Gala has provided $1.7 million in scholarships to more than a thousand students over the past 21 years. The gala was founded by community members Marcia Wade and Dorothy Orton and has played a pivotal role in providing need-based scholarships for students at Utah Tech University. In honor of their tireless efforts to support students, scholarships funded at the gala are being renamed starting this year to Marcia Wade and Dorothy Orton “Pay It Forward Scholarship.”
In addition to hosting the gala, the Utah Tech University Foundation supports Utah Tech and education in general by helping provide for the needs of the university. To learn more about how you can support Utah Tech Trailblazers, visit giving.utahtech.edu.
