Screening documentary films from all around the world, Utah Tech University’s DOCUTAH International Film Festival is open to filmmakers, documentary enthusiasts and community members alike.
Presented by Utah Tech University, the Utah Tech Film Department, the City of St. George and Greater Zion, DOCUTAH is set to take place Feb. 27 through March 1 at Megaplex Theatres at Sunset, 1091 N. Bluff St. in St. George.
In addition to screening both feature and short-length films on a wide variety of subjects, DOCUTAH features interactive experiences such as in-depth conversations with invited guests on all things film. DOCTALKS are free to attend and set to take place Feb. 27 and 28 at 8:30 p.m.
Additionally, Olympic and world champion runner Edwin Moses will accompany his biopic “Moses: 13 Steps” at 6 p.m. on March 1 and present a question and answer session following the screening of the film.
“As a speaker, Dr. Moses presents all over the world. His film has screened at the Cologne Film Festival, the NYDOC festival, the Lebron James Festival and the Morehouse College Festival, just to name a few,” Karman Wilson, Utah Tech Assistant Dean of Professional Arts and Executive Director of DOCUTAH, said. “And now, we are thrilled to have this living legend here in St. George to interact with Utah Tech student s and be part of DOCUTAH.”
Moses’ use of physics in the 400 meter hurdles along with his drive and work ethic led him to the longest winning streak in the event.
“Having Dr. Edwin Moses, a legendary Olympian and world renowned athlete, attend DOCUTAH is a true honor for our community,” Joyce Kelly, manager of film, global tourism and travel trade for Greater Zion Convention & Tourism Office, said. “His dedication to excellence aligns with the spirit of innovation and inspiration that DOCUTAH embodies.”
While in town, Moses will visit the Utah Tech Cross Country and Track & Field teams to share his experiences as an Olympic and world champion runner.
“Our teams are thrilled to have the opportunity to interact with Edwin Moses,” Justin Decker, UT’s head cross country coach, said.
Closing the event, the DOCUTAH Awards Ceremony will take place at 8 p.m. on March 1 and feature a performance by Philip Labes. The Awards Ceremony is free to attend.
