Utah Tech University inducts 3 distinguished community members into its Hall of Fame

Utah Tech University celebrated the induction of Dr. Robert W. Prince, Marcia Wade and Dorothy Orton into its Hall of Fame in a ceremony Thursday evening, recognizing their contributions to the Utah Tech University community.

“Induction into the Hall of Fame is a prestigious honor that recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves and supported Utah Tech University,” Brad Last, vice president of advancement at Utah Tech, said. “This award recognizes supporters of the institution and celebrates their contributions. Utah Tech is very grateful for inductees’ incredible support of our institution.”

Established in 1998, the university’s Hall of Fame honors members of the community who have shown grit, demonstrated determination, achieved success and supported the University through service or financial contributions. Inductees have proven themselves over time and are recognized for their enduring impact locally, statewide, nationally or internationally.

Prince, an alumnus of Dixie Jr. College, earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery and post-residency certification in orthodontics from the University of Southern California. A long-time orthodontist in St. George, Beaver and Kanab, Prince played a key role in founding Utah Tech’s Department of Dental Hygiene by temporarily donating his office space before the permanent facility was completed.

Inducted into UT’s Hall of Fame posthumously, Wade dedicated her life to community service after being inspired by an act of kindness during her college years. After a community member covered her expenses while she was earning her bachelor’s degree in education from Brigham Young University, Wade was diligent to pay forward the act of supporting students. Since moving to St. George in 1993, she had been deeply involved in various local initiatives, including servings as a founding co-chair of Utah Tech’s Fire & Ice Gala since 2005 to raise funds for need-based scholarships, supporting students and serving on the Dixie College and Utah Tech Foundation board for 17 years.

Orton has been a vital member of the Utah Tech Foundation board since 2000. As a founding co-chair of the Fire & Ice Gala, she has helped raise funds for needs-based scholarships since 2005. Orton has also been involved in a wide range of community efforts, including serving on the Washington County Fair Board, the Judicial Nominating Committee for the Fifth District Court and the Huntsman World Senior Games.

Additionally, in recognition of Wade and Orton’s years of dedication to raising support for student scholarships, the university announced the renaming of the Fire & Ice Scholarship to The Marcia Wade and Dorothy Orton Pay It Forward Scholarship. This change reflects Utah Tech’s gratitude for Wade and Orton’s contributions and commitment to the university and its students in addition to making it possible for community member to make one-time or reoccurring donations throughout the year at utahtech.edu/fireandice.

Currently, the Utah Tech University Hall of Fame has 116 inductees in seven different categories, including Athletics, Business, Education, Fine and Performing Arts, Public and University Service, Science and Technology, and Social Sciences and Humanities.
