Epitomizing the partnership between Black Desert and Utah Tech University, the Utah Tech Golf Practice Facility at Black Desert was unveiled during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday afternoon.
“The creation of the Utah Tech practice facility is a dream come true for our golf program,” UT Head Men’s Golf Coach Brad Sutterfield said. “Partnering with Black Desert has been an amazing experience, and we look forward to continuing working with them to build this program to a national level.”
In addition to housing the practice facility for the Trailblazers men’s and women’s golf teams, Black Desert’s golf course, designed by Tom Weiskopf, is the home course for the university’s golf programs. Black Desert offers the resources necessary to strengthen player development and bolster the team’s competitive edge. Among the exclusive amenities offered to Trailblazer golf athletes are a driving range, a 1.5-acre putting green and a halfway house on the course for lunch and breakfast.
“The relationship between Black Desert and UT is very meaningful to us,” Patrick Manning, managing partner of Black Desert, said. “It isn’t just Black Desert providing a space for the UT golf teams, it’s a true partnership. We come to each other with needs and we help each other meet those needs.”
Looking forward, plans are underway to add other facilities to support the Trailblazer Golf program, including offices, locker rooms, a gym and a cafeteria.
“With this practice facility now a reality, and a building in the near future, the sky is the limit for the Utah Tech golf program. Our student-athletes will have everything they need to take their games to the next level,” Sutterfield said. “We could not have done this without our many generous donors and supporters of our golf program. We can’t thank them enough.”
The golf facility is just one facet of the relationship between Black Desert and Utah Tech University. Black Desert is also a key partner in the university’s Hotel and Resort Management academic program. Together, the two are redefining excellence in the region’s hospitality sector by offering UT students hands-on learning opportunities at the resort that prepare them to graduate, not only ready to meet the region’s workforce demands, but also elevate Black Desert’s guest experience. Black Desert also supports UT athletes through the Black Desert Strive to Be award, honoring athletes who excel in their sport and in their communities.
