Utah Tech University’s Institute of Politics & Public Affairs to host climate forum

Utah Tech University’s Institute of Politics & Public Affairs will host a forum on climate change featuring Bob Inglis, executive director of republicEn, joined by a panel of speakers.

“The Climate Crisis: Are There Conservative Solutions?” is set to take place at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 12 in the ballroom of the Kenneth N. Gardner Student Center on the Utah Tech campus. The forum is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

Joining the director of the organization that seeks conservative solutions to climate change on the panel will be Dr. Logan Mitchell of Utah Clean Energy; Mayor Chris Hart of Ivins City; and Councilwoman Dannielle Larkin of St. George.

“Conservatives are the indispensable partner for action on climate and many on the EcoRight are slowly stepping up to lead,” said Inglis, who also is a former congressman. “A carbon border adjustment fee on imports would fix the economics by bringing accountability to carbon-intensive products being imported to our country. Bringing accountability for those costs is rock-solid conservatism that would make Milton Friedman proud.”

The panel will discuss if there is common ground that all sides can agree upon, whether conservative solutions are desirable and what opportunities adopting clean technology might bring to Southern Utah, the state and the nation. The forum will be moderated by Vince Brown, director of UT’s Institute of Politics & Public Affairs.

“As part of a 650-mile listening tour of Utah, I am looking forward to learning how local communities are being impacted by our changing climate and how the local, regional and national solutions can help us face this challenge together,” said Bill Barron of Citizens Climate Lobby.
