Dixie State University is celebrating what it means to be a Trailblazer during the 2021 Homecoming Week with a variety of activities and festivities, including the dedication of the Science, Engineering & Technology Building.
Homecoming Week, which is set to take place October 18-23, will feature the dedication of the new Science, Engineering & Technology Building at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 22. Building tours will be offered immediately following the ceremony. Later that evening, Dixie State will celebrate with a free Queen cover band concert and firework show at 7:30 p.m. on the Encampment Mall. Food trucks, photobooths and other activities will be available. Then from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 23, the institution will host a Community Day at the SET, opening the building’s doors for family-friendly STEM activities.
“Every square foot of the of the 120,000-square-foot building has been intentionally designed for student experiences and learning. It is clear to me that this building will provide many wonderful hands-on, career-oriented student experiences in science, engineering and technology for decades to come,” Eric Pedersen, dean of Dixie State’s College of Science, Engineering & Technology, said. “These experiences will prepare students for their careers and for their lives.”
Before the SET Building dedication, however, Homecoming week will kick off with the free Classic Car Show and Carnival from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 18. Hosted by the DSU Alumni Association, the event is set to take place in St. George Town Square.
Continuing the festivities, the 2021 Miss Dixie State University Competition will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the M.K. Cox Performing Art Center. General admission tickets are $10.
Then on Thursday, Oct. 21, the community is invited to enjoy the amenities Dixie State’s Human Performance Center has to offer. HPC Community Day runs from 3 to 9 p.m. and offers access to the Olympic-size swimming pool, rooftop pickle ball courts, the 65-foot climbing wall, basketball courts and more.
The Alumni Banquet and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22, in the Kenneth N. Gardner Student Center. The program will honor this year’s Hall of Fame Inductees, Denis and Diane Lyman and Dave Rose, and induct the Dixie College classes of 1970 and 1971 into the Golden Generation. Tickets are $20 and available at alumni.utahtech.edu/alumni-events/banquet.
A full day of celebratory events are slated for Saturday, Oct. 23. The annual Homecoming Parade will begin at 10 a.m., running down University Avenue from 150 South to 600 South. Later that afternoon, the community is invited to cheer the Trailblazers on to victory during the traditional game-day festivities. A Trailblazer Tailgate party will start at 5 p.m. in Greater Zion Stadium’s east parking lot. The football team will then take on the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks at 7 p.m.
