Dixie State University was recently awarded a $100,000 Perkins Grant to establish the DSU Center at Water Canyon High School in Hildale.
The grant, awarded through the Carl Perkins Career & Technical Education Special Project, will make it possible for Dixie State to increase educational opportunities for high school students in the Hildale community starting in the fall 2021 semester.
“One of the major themes for Community and Global Engagement at Dixie State is to provide meaningful educational opportunities for every community within our service area. However, with some of our rural communities, like Hildale, coming onto our campus simply isn’t practical,” DSU Associate Provost of Community & Global Engagement Dr. Nancy Hauck said. “Our DSU educational centers are a great way of partnering with communities and high schools in bringing education to them. It’s a wonderful model and allows DSU to be more actively engaged with all of our community partners.”
The Hildale Center will offer an array of educational courses through the use of state-of-the-art technologies and face-to-face instruction. Concurrent enrollment options will help high school students save time and money by taking courses that fulfill both high school and college general education requirements. Additionally, the center will offer career-ready certificates to both high school students and community members through Career & Technical Education programs.
“I am excited for the many opportunities a DSU Center will provide our students and potentially our community here in Hildale,” Water Canyon High School Principal Steve Showalter said. “The various concurrent enrollment classes will create pathways to careers that we currently cannot offer our students. WCHS is dedicated to broadening the options to students to provide the best education possible.”
