Repertory Dance Theatre to present forum as part of 3-day residency at Dixie State

Offering a historical presentation and narrated dance performance, Utah’s Repertory Dance Theatre will present at Dixie State University’s weekly lecture series Dixie Forum: A Window on the World.

In their Dixie Forum presentation, Repertory Dance Theatre’s eight professional dancers will offer a cultural overview of modern dance in the 20th century and its function in and reflection of society. The forum is set to take place at noon on Jan. 21 in the Dunford Auditorium, located in the Browning Resource Center on the Dixie State campus. Admission is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.

Repertory Dance Theatre’s Dixie Forum appearance is part of its three-day residency with Dixie State’s Dance Department. Additionally, the dancers will offer a feature performance with southwest band 3hattrio as part of the university’s Celebrity Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 23in the M.K. Cox Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $25 and available at dsutix.com.

The company, which received a Rockefeller grant in 1966 that established it as the nation’s first repertory dance company, has been dedicated to the creation, performance, perpetuation and appreciation of modern dance for more than 50 years. RDT presents its audiences with a diverse range of modern dance styles and choreographers to highlight the dancers’ grace, athleticism, beauty and power.  

Dixie Forum is a weekly lecture series designed to introduce the St. George and Dixie State communities to diverse ideas and personalities while widening their worldviews via a 50-minute presentation. The next installment of Dixie Forum, set to take place at noon on Jan. 28 in the Dunford Auditorium, will feature a lecture by Utah State University Professor Terry Messmer on sage grouse conservation.
