Dixie State University Jazz Ensemble to perform concert of big band, contemporary favorites
Performing a blend of traditional big band and contemporary jazz music, the Dixie State University Jazz Ensemble will present a concert Dec. 2.
The performance is set to take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Dolores Doré Eccles Fine Arts Center Concert Hall on the Dixie State campus. Tickets are $6.25 for general admission and are available at the DSU Ticket Office in the M.K. Cox Performing Arts Center, online at dsutix.universitytickets.com or at the door.
"It's going to be a fantastic concert filled with the best music you'll hear this holiday season," Tanner Deal, a sophomore majoring in music performance at Dixie State, said.
The group, led by Dr. Glenn Webb and consisting of 21 musicians, will perform big band music from the libraries of Nat King Cole, Les Hooper and Harry James as well as contemporary music written for large jazz ensembles. Additionally, student soloists will be featured throughout the evening.
"I really love playing with this group and playing this music,” Mari Ericksen, a sophomore majoring in music performance, said. “The band is sounding great."
For the last 13 years, Webb has directed DSU’s Jazz Ensemble, which is made up of students who study in all colleges on campus and audition for the band. The ensemble studies a collection of jazz styles and movements and performs what they have learned in a series of concerts throughout the school year.
