Dixie State University Dance Company to present Student Dance Concert
Dixie State University’s Dance Company brings active learning to the stage as it presents a showcase for its dance students at the annual Student Dance Concert.
The Dance Company will perform their annual Dance Concert on Nov. 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. on the Eccles Main Stage, located in the Dolores Doré Eccles Fine Arts Center on Dixie State’s campus. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
“I have always loved performing in both dance and theatre productions and choreographing for the Student Dance Concert is my chance to combine my two passions,” said Jaidyn Harris, senior dance major and member of the DSU Dance Company.
The concert is a collaboration of students in three distinct courses within Dixie State’s Dance degree program – Choreography Practicum, Dance Production and Dance Performance as well as Dance Club members. In addition to students from DSU, this year’s concert will feature guest dancers from Snow College in Ephraim, Utah.
Senior Dance major Kira Brown said her choreography performed at the concert reflects her experience with bipolar disorder. “Creating it has been a way for me to express my emotions in movement as well as communicate what I experience on a daily basis to people who may not be able to understand otherwise.”
After casting the show, the program’s student choreographers continue their creative research through weekly rehearsals and considering all aspects of administrative and technical production, from marketing and lighting to sound and costumes.
The Dixie State Dance Company was founded in September 2001 to provide DSU dance students an opportunity to experience, train and refine the art of dance. The company prepares members to succeed in dance careers through rigorous rehearsals and performances. To learn more about the DSU Dance Department, visit dance.dixe.edu.
