Director of Sponsored Programs Sylvia Bradshaw receives inaugural national award
Dixie State University’s director of sponsored programs recently received national recognition when the National Council of University Research Administrators selected her as one of the first-ever recipients of its Education Scholarship award.
Sylvia Bradshaw was honored as one of only two scholarship recipients in front of more than 2,000 research administrators and federal officials from across the country in attendance at the National NCURA conference in Washington, D.C. Bradshaw and Amanda Tan from Boston University were selected for the award through a highly competitive process.
Additionally, Bradshaw is the first Utahan, and one of approximately 30 people in the nation, to graduate with a master’s degree in research administration from Johns Hopkins University, the leading research university in the world. The prestigious combination of the national award alongside a Johns Hopkins degree completion speaks well of Dixie State University’s momentum and caliber of its employees.
“I thorough enjoy the learning process,” Bradshaw said. “Johns Hopkins and the NCURA organization have given me a solid knowledge base and ever-expanding network of professionals to help cultivate a research and innovation environment at DSU.”
As a research administrator, Bradshaw directs and advocates for innovation, research, and scholarly activity through sponsored programs (grants) offered through local, state and federal resources. In her role, Bradshaw helps locate possible sources of support, advises on proposals and negotiates research contracts. Of the more notable recent awards, Bradshaw helped secure the funding of two separate Economic Development Agency grants, totaling slightly over $3.3 million in project funds.
