Dixie State University Music Department to hold DOVE Center benefit concert series
Dixie State University will host an all-star group of jazz musicians to fund raise for local survivors of abuse.
The DOVE Center Jazz Series will be lead by Dr. Glenn Webb, DSU’s Music Department Chair, on Monday, Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m. Musicians known as SG Jazz Collective will perform jazz standards, original jazz compositions, and a variety of innovative jazz arrangements of famous TV and movie theme songs for students, alumni and the community.
“Many talented jazz musicians live in southern Utah,” said Carlyle Potter, concert organizer. “We are very fortunate to have talented jazz musicians, who could be working in places like the New York City jazz scene, living here.”
The concert is free to the public; however, donations to help the DOVE Center, which provides safe, caring, and confidential shelter, advocacy, and support for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault are encouraged and accepted at the door.
“DOVE relies on donations from people in our community to provide services that help individuals and families find safety and heal from abuse,” said Laney Larson, DOVE Center Director of Development. “The Dove Center is thankful for local jazz musicians and those who attend the concert to support survivors.”
The concert series will provide 100% of all donations to the DOVE Center to be used to help local victims of domestic abuse.
DSU’s Women’s Resource Center is partnered with the DOVE Center to provide an on-campus advocacy service every Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Holland Centennial Commons, Room 489. The partnership is intended to reach student, faculty, or personnel at DSU who have survived abuse.
