Sears Art Museum Gallery to host Photography: Sight Site exhibit
Featuring classic and contemporary photography by professional and emerging photographers, the exhibit Photography: Sight Site will be on display at the Dixie State University Sears Art Museum Gallery this summer.
The exhibit will be on display June 20 through August 18 and will open with a reception from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on June 19. Admission is free, and the gallery is open Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Dolores Doré Eccles Fine Arts Center on the DSU campus.
Photography: Sight Site will allow attendees to witness the world the way each photographer observes it, with a trained eye focusing on the world as they uniquely see it.
“We invite people who carry a camera in their pocket to explore this creative art form that mirrors and shapes everyday life,” Kathy Cieslewicz, Sears Art Museum Gallery curator, said. “These participating artists are committed to pioneering the evolving technologies to expand how we see.”
Artists whose photographs are on display as part of the Sight Site exhibit are Nick Adams, Dave Becker, Deb Bice, Glen Blakley, Mark Breinholt, Gene Butera, Alex Chamberlain, Lynn Chamberlain, Frank Huff, Maria Jeffs, Amy Jorgensen, Gary Kalpakoff, Robert Lefkow, Braden Lindstrom, Charles Lupica, Glen Martin, Phillip Monson, Anna Oakden, Ernesto Perez, David Pettit, Les Smith, Nathan St. Andre, Joy Stein and Nathan Wotkyns. Additionally, Shirley Smith’s work will be on display in the Eccles Grand Foyer.
For exhibiting artist Gene Burtera, who has had a long career of commercial photography that began with a picture of a Jaguar for “Car and Driver,” a lifetime of success has never left him without inspiration through the lens.
“I found that I could turn the mundane into an interesting and arresting picture, both real and abstract,” Burtera said. “It is where I have arrived and probably will occupy me for some time.”
The Sears Art Museum Gallery features six exhibits each year. Offering a variety of art styles from traditional to contemporary, the gallery exists for the enjoyment and education of Dixie State University students and the community. For more information, visit www.searsart.com.
