Dixie State University Student Association to host Talents for Treatments benefit concert
Raising funds for local cancer research, the Dixie State University Student Association is hosting the benefit concert Talents for Treatments.
The concert, which will feature various talent acts such as dance, song and theater pieces, is set to take place at 7:30 p.m. on April 29 in the Mainstage Theatre of Dixie State’s Dolores Doré Eccles Fine Arts Center. Among other performers, the event will feature Miss Dixie Kelby Morrison, Dixie state teams, and principal dancers from the Nevada Ballet and Universal Ballet Theatre performing a duet from Swan Lake.
All proceeds from the concert will be donated to Intermountain Healthcare Precision Genomics. Located in St. George, the lab provides a personalized approach to testing, diagnosing and treating cancer.
"Cancer interferes with the personal lives of many, including my own family. My grandfather, mother and now my sisters have all had to struggle through this battle,” McKensy Madsen, the event’s organizer and the health and lifestyle service leader for DSUSA, said. “We chose the Precision Genomics lab because we wanted to find a way to help the people of St. George with their battles as well."
Encouraging lifelong learning and service, the service branch of Dixie State’s student association provides and seeks opportunities to serve on campus and within the community. During the 2015-16 school year, the branch provided 44 service events and contributed more than 5,000 service hours to causes such as hunger and homelessness. Talents for Treatments tickets are $8 per person or $6 per ticket for groups of 10 or more and are available in advance at dsutix.com or at the DSU Ticket Office in the M.K. Cox Performing Arts Center.
