Doctor to present on heart health at next President’s Colleagues of Dixie State University meeting
Presenting “All You Want to Know About Your Heart,” Dr. Michael Preece will speak at the next President’s Colleagues of Dixie State University meeting.
The lecture is set to take place at noon on Monday, March 6, in Lecture Hall 156 of Dixie State’s Russell C. Taylor Health Science Center, located on Dixie Regional Medical Center’s River Road campus, 1526 East Medical Center Drive. The meeting is free and open to the public.
During his presentation, Preece will address the effects exercise, nutrition, cholesterol, atherosclerosis and statins have on cardiovascular health. Additionally, he will answer any questions attendees may have.
Preece earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah in 1965 and a medical doctorate from the University of Utah College of Medicine in 1969. He performed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine Osler Services at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He received a nephrology fellowship at the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in San Francisco. After which, he became board certified in internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine. He also received a cardiovascular fellowship at the University of Utah College of Medicine and became board certified in cardiovascular disease.
From 1975 to 2000, Preece had a medical practice in Salt Lake City at both the Salt Lake Clinic and at LDS Hospital, specializing in interventional cardiology. He retired from the practice of cardiology in April 2000.
The President’s Colleagues of Dixie State University, established more than 20 years ago by former DSU President Dr. Douglas Alder, is a group of retired professors and other professionals who live mostly in the Washington County area and come together to learn from one another and discuss important issues.
President’s Colleagues will continue at noon on April 3 when Dr. Preston Hughes will give an update on developments in the Middle East, focusing on Turkey, Syria, Iraq and the Arab-Israeli conflict. Then on May 1, Dixie State University President Richard B. Williams will give his annual State of Dixie State University address. After taking a recess for the summer, the series will resume October 2.
