DSU to host duo piano recital by Christopher Giles, Brandon Lee
As part of the Celebrate Steinway 2016 campaign, Dixie State University’s College of the Arts is hosting a duo piano recital by Christopher Giles and Brandon Lee that will benefit the university’s effort to become an All-Steinway institution.
The concert is set to take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, in Dixie State’s Delores Doré Eccles Fine Arts Center Concert Hall. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $5 for students and are available at the DSU Box Office, dsutix.com or 435-652-7800.
Giles and Lee are both world-class artists and have performed duo piano music together for the past three years. As members of DSU’s piano faculty, they have taught and mentored the Piano Ensemble Class and prepared students to perform duets, duos and quartets each semester at the piano ensemble concerts. Audiences have enjoyed the Lee-Giles piano duo each semester, and this recital will be a feast for the ears in technical virtuosity and musical interpretation.
The piano duo has planned an exciting program featuring “Three Preludes” by George Gershwin, “Romance” by Sergei Rachmaninoff, “Three Waltzes” — made famous in Disney Films — by Greg Anderson, three pieces by Astor Piazzolla and “La Valse” by Maurice Ravel.
This recital will feature the new Zions Steinway that Zions Bank donated to Dixie State University in June. The College of the Arts has planned a year of stellar piano performances to highlight this magnificent instrument and promote the art of piano performance at Dixie State.
Other upcoming piano events for the DSU Music Department include the DSU Student Piano Recital on Wednesday, Nov. 16, and the DSU Piano Ensemble Concert on Wednesday, Nov. 30. For more information, contact Dr. Nancy Allred at 435-652-7995 or allred@utahtech.edu.
