The Dixie State University Music Department will be presenting a program of contemporary concert music featuring Grand Circle New Music.

The concert takes place on Friday, October 21, at 7:30pm, in the Eccles Concert Hall on the DSU campus. It is open to the public and admission is free.

Grand Circle New Music is a new music series that Dr. Glenn Webb and Dr. Robert Matheson, both DSU music professors, started in southern Utah.

“The aim of the group is to promote the performance of contemporary solo and chamber music with a special interest in music created in and about the Grand Circle,” said Matheson.

The Grand Circle region includes portions of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Nevada and has America’s highest concentration of national parks and monuments. Works by John Luther Adams, Dan Asia, John Cage, Tom Knific, Morton Feldman and Julian Wachner will be featured at this inaugural concert.

Dixie State’s own faculty members will perform, including Candice Behrmann on flute, Timothy Francis on trombone, Glenn Webb and Amanda Morrill on percussion, Linda Deluca on violin, Ka-Wai Yu on cello and Robert Matheson on the double bass. Special guests include Christian Bohnenstengel on piano and Christopher Leonard singing tenor.
