Dixie State University offers new programs in business, communication and humanities
Having recently received approval from the State Board of Regents, Dixie State University will offer additional minors and emphases in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS) and the College of Business and Communication beginning next semester.
“We are expanding quickly to provide more programs like these for our students,” President Richard “Biff” Williams said. “Dixie State as a whole is moving forward and working hard to prepare our students to fill the needs of our local, statewide and global workforce.”
In the CHASS, there have been many requests for a minor in American Sign Language, which will now officially be an option for students. There will also be a humanities minor that covers a variety of humanities courses.
With the local growth and interest in the business sector, the College of Business and Communication recognized a growing need for additional minors. These will include economics, management and marketing minors.
The communication department has already seen an influx of students interested in media studies and has addressed this expansion with the addition of a new Digital Film degree. Following this degree addition, Dixie has added a strategic communication emphasis in media studies and an emphasis in health communication within Communication Studies.
“The strategic communication emphasis will be a great addition to the Media Studies department because it will give the students an opportunity to expand their job opportunities,” said Ryan Huskins, a Media Studies major with an emphasis in digital film from Las Vegas, Nevada. “It’s a great bridge between Media Studies and Business, and I think it has great potential. I’m also glad that my degree is being offered at Dixie so I can stay in St. George.”
Dixie State University is also pleased to announce a partnership with the Center for Legal Studies, a national legal education company focused on providing students the most affordable and effective legal education possible, in order to offer new paralegal courses.
