Dixie State University will hold its 104th Commencement Exercises on Friday, May 8, at 11 a.m., in the M. Anthony Burns Arena. Graduates will begin the Processional at 10:15 a.m., marching from the Gardner Student Center and through the Holland Centennial Plaza to the Burns Arena.
In an effort to make it, DSU has condensed this year's commencement exercises into one ceremony. Since 2011, Dixie State has held a formal ceremony, followed by individual school convocations held at various campus locations. However, DSU administrators felt having one ceremony would make it more convenient for all graduates, families and visitors to campus.

To date, DSU is slated to confer 1,827 total degrees and certificates to 1,720 graduates this year, including 621 baccalaureate degrees, 1,039 associate degrees, and 167 vocational and technical certificates. Of the 621 baccalaureate degrees to be awarded, just over half (314) of the graduates will come from five programs – communication (101), business administration (64), integrated studies (57), psychology (47) and accounting (45).
Twenty-six foreign countries and 39 states, and Puerto Rico, are represented in the Class of 2015, while 84.6 percent of DSU's graduates (1,455 students) call Utah home. Washington County natives make up 54.9 percent of Dixie's graduating class (944), with 25 of the state's 29 counties represented overall. Female graduates (969 total) constitute 56.3 percent of the class and the class ranges in age from 17 to 66.
This year's graduating class also features seventh class of high school students who will be awarded an associate degree as part of the Southern Utah Center for Computer, Engineering, and Science Students (SUCCESS) Academy program. The SUCCESS Academy is a state-approved early college high school in partnership with Washington County School District and Dixie State University. This academically rigorous and challenging program provides students the opportunity to earn an associate degree through an on-campus college curriculum while also completing their high school graduation requirements at their boundary high school. The Success Academy on the DSU campus began in the fall of 2006 and to date, 315 students have completed the program to earn their associate degrees, including 46 students this year.
Dixie State's Class of 2015 will be represented by Ms. Tamara Lemmon, who was selected to speak at the Commencement Exercises. Lemmon is graduating Summa Cum Luade with a Bachelor's of Science degree in English, with an emphasis in Literary Studies and a minor in Mathematics.
Two honorary doctorate degrees will be awarded during the ceremony, with commencement keynote speaker Utah Lieutenant Governor Spencer J. Cox, and longtime professor, administrator and Trustee and retired Washington County School District Superintendent Dr. Max Rose, each receiving the honor.
A career educator, Dr. Rose came to Dixie College in 1972, where he taught mathematics and chemistry. He was named "Professor of the Year" five times, and also served as Vice President of Academic Services. Rose spent 10 years at WCSD superintendent, retiring form that position in 2013. He also served as a member of the Dixie State Board of Trustees from 2007-14.
Dixie State's Commencement Ceremony will be available for viewing via free live streaming video on DSU's website and will be broadcast live on Dixie's Community Education Channel (CEC). The ceremony will also be shown on a taped-delay basis on CEC throughout the month of May and on KUED-TV on Saturday, May 30, at 3 p.m.
