Learn about the science of DNA sequencing at Dixie State University's next "Dixie Forum: A Window on the World" presentation, when Dr. Joshua Udall will offer a lecture on cotton genomics.
The lecture is set to take place from noon to 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, in the Dunford Auditorium in the Browning Resource Center on the DSU campus. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

An associate professor in the Department of Plant and Wildlife Science at Brigham Young University, Udall works on gene expression of cotton and cotton genomics. Currently, he is creating optical maps of the diploid and polyploid cotton genomes. He began his work in cotton at Iowa State University as a postdoctoral student with Jonathan Wendel. Together, they created custom micorarrays to investigate gene expression bias of tetraploid cotton.
Udall grew up in Utah, earned a bachelor's degree from BYU, a Master's in Plant Sciences from the University of Idaho, and a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he created two DH haploid maps of Brassica napus using RFLP markers.
Dixie Forum is a lecture series designed to introduce the St. George community and DSU students, faculty and staff to diverse ideas and personalities while widening their worldviews via a 50-minute presentation. The weekly series will continue at noon on Tuesday, April 14, in the Dunford Auditorium when David Wolske, creative director of the Book Arts Program and Red Butte Press at the University of Utah, offers a presentation on typography and design.
