Dixie State University will host its seventh President's Colleagues of DSU meeting of the 2014-15 academic year on Monday, April 6, featuring a presentation on the life of former United States President Theodore Roosevelt by Colleague Dr. Ben D. Mahaffey.

The meeting will begin at 12 noon, in Room 156 of the DSC Russell C. Taylor Health Science Center, located on the Dixie Regional Medical Center's River Road campus at 1526 Medical Center Drive. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Mahaffey presentation, entitled "Theodore Roosevelt – His Life, Family, War Record, Politics, Hunting and Conservation Record," will draw upon the more than two decades he has spent studying the Roosevelt. Mahaffey has written three chapters on Roosevelt's life, among many other topics, and has been published in several journals and magazines. He has also published six books of short stories on hunting and fishing.
A native of Midwest, Wyo., Mahaffey earned a bachelor's degree from Colorado State University, and a master's and Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. He is a veteran of the Korean War, during which he served as a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy. Mahaffey has been a private consultant to several Fortune 500 companies and spent four years as a private consultant to the U.S. Army at the Pentagon.
The President's Colleagues of Dixie State University, established more than 20 years ago by former DSU President Dr. Douglas Alder, is a group of retired professors and other professionals who live mostly in the St. George and Washington County area. Dr. Alder, who also started an Honors Program at DSU, organized the Colleagues as a way to increase academic activities on campus.
The Colleagues meet together once a month during the academic year to hear presentations from each other and/or invited guests. The final Colleagues meeting of the 2014-15 academic year is scheduled for Monday, May 4, featuring DSU President Dr. Richard B. Williams, who will deliver his first "State of the University" address as president. He will also answer questions following the presentation.
