The presentation will be held in Room 238 of BYU's Herald R. Clark Building beginning at 12 noon. [/two_third] Professor Bashir's lecture, entitled "Tragedy of Errors: Contemporary Pakistan?," will focus on issues such as the war in South Asia, the prospects of peace for the future, the religious, social and cultural aspects of the conflict, and the people effected by events in that region. Bashir currently teaches business and criminal law, war and terrorism and global law at DSU. A native of the Pakistani tribal region, he is an expert in South Asia law, politics, conflicts and culture, and speaks six languages and multiple dialects. Bashir received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Edwardes College, and an LLB in English and Islamic Law from the University of Peshawar, both of which are in Peshawar, Pakistan. He then moved to the United States and earned an LLM in Comparative Law from the California Western School of Law in San Diego. "Dixie State University is pleased to be represented by Professor Bashir at BYU's [Kennedy Center for International Studies] lecture series," said Dr. William H. Christensen, DSU Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer. "He brings a rich international background to DSU and is a favorite instructor among DSU students. In a world in which war and peace between Middle East/South Asia countries and the United States and other highly developed countries seems to increasingly hang in the balance, DSU feels fortunate to have a professor who so effectively helps our students correctly understand the relevant issues, histories, and perspectives that drive these fragile relationships." The prestigious Kennedy Center International Studies Lecture series has featured a number of well-known national and international presenters, including Joseph Samuel Nye Jr., American political scientist and former Dean of Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, and United States Under Secretary of State Rose E. Gottemoeller, among other notable speakers. For more information about the series, please visit kennedy.byu.edu.
