With the holiday season soon to be upon us, and in celebration of the 2014 Day of Caring, Dixie State University students, faculty, and staff are teaming up with United Way Dixie and the SwitchPoint Community Resource Center for a special food-packing event on Monday, December 1. The event will take place from 4-7 p.m., at the DSU Gardner Center Ballroom.
In all, more than 450 volunteers are expected to descend on the Gardner Center to package 50,000 rice and bean meals, which will be donated to several Washington County food pantries, in an effort to combat hunger in the area. According to United Way Dixie, local businesses and volunteer groups are invited to create 10-person food packing teams to aid in the effort.
Last year, nearly 400 volunteers came together to create, package and box up 50,000 macaroni and cheese dinner packets, which were placed on pallets and shipped to the Dixie Care and Share.
